SHAKESPEARE THE POET
Graham Fawcett lectures on poetry, art, music, Italy, Dante, and Samuel Pepys. He studied Classics at Christ’s Hospital and English at Cambridge. He broadcast on Radio 3 for 25 years and taught for The Poetry School and Goldsmiths College for fifteen years. He played the title role in Shakespeare’s Cymbeline at Southampton’s Nuffield Theatre in 1970 and edited Poems For Shakespeare 2 for Sam Wanamaker and the Globe Playhouse Trust in 1973. In recent years, Graham has created poetry lecture-performances-with-readings to give audiences who love poetry a fresh experience which he hopes will feel more like listening to a live radio programme than to a lecture, and so blow away some of the daunting associations we will almost certainly have had with that word. He has appeared at literary festivals in Aldeburgh, Bridlington, Bridport, Chipping Campden, Dulwich, Henley, Ilkley, the Isle of Wight, Islip (Oxon), Little Gidding, Padiham (Lancs), Peterborough, Taunton and Yeovil.
